Manager, Product Development

Reporting to the AVP, Product Development, Wealth Solutions, the successful applicant will be a key contributor on the team leading and/or supporting complex investment product development projects (with a focus on managed solutions), across multiple business and product lines, including mutual funds and segregated funds, and market segments.

The Manager, Product Development (Managed Solutions) will lead and/or support certain elements of the often-complex product development process from ideation to execution, drawing on and engaging resources and expertise around the Canada Life organization and from external service partners to develop strategies and leverage efficiencies.

The Manager, Product Development (Managed Solutions) will be required to utilize their advanced understanding of managed solutions in the wealth industry to communicate their thorough and specialized understanding of the competitive marketplace, including pain points and unmet needs of clients and stakeholders such as investors, plan participants, plan sponsors, intermediaries, advisors and distributors to profitably create and market world class managed solutions through multiple channels.

What you will do 

• Lead the identification and investigation of business challenges by developing market insights around customer needs, domestic and global trends through primary and secondary means, including structured and unstructured interaction with the various distribution teams, industry contacts and publications.
• Lead the development of an annual review of Canada Life’s managed solutions for potential enhancements and new product launches.
• Develop business cases and execute on product lifecycle activities in a collaborative, cross organizational manner, delivering a leading managed solutions offering.
• Develop and maintain financial models upon which to analyze and evaluate the viability and profit potential of new product ideas and initiatives.
• Develop and maintain product dashboards utilizing various industry and internal databases to track product adoption across various channels.
• Successfully connect ideas to evolve strategic direction of our managed solution product shelf with a focus on the lines of business and may cover a wide range of topics, business challenges or client needs. (Examples of which could include Separately Managed Accounts, Offering Memorandums, Alternatives. Decumulation, etc.)

What you will bring 

• 7+ years of combined Product Development and wealth management experience,
• Demonstrated expertise in managed solutions and the regulatory environment in which they operate.
• University degree in a related field.
• Financial services experience, product management, product analytics, operational and/or financial experience; with solid understanding of product performance indicators.
• Leadership skills sufficient to achieve results within a matrix management environment involving specialists with skills, knowledge and orientations different from their own.
• Demonstrated experience with market evaluations, financial analysis, business case development, product pricing, new product design, and planning.
• Strong product, planning and project management skills - self-motivated and results oriented individual with strong leadership, decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to track, aggregate and internalize a broad range of information and insights, from both primary and secondary sources, to determine customer needs, advisor or intermediary trends, industry trends and flows, and areas where we need to create or improve offerings.
• Possesses a high degree of financial, analytic and problem-solving skills.
• CFA, CIM, CFP, CAIA are assets.
• Strong proficiency with the MS Office suite.
• Proven experience with various industry-related applications including Morningstar Direct, eVestment and Bloomberg are an asset.
